Why You Should Get Preventative Botox

January 31st, 2022

Botox is all the craze these days – and for good reason! People want to eliminate the signs of aging, and now the younger generation is beginning to realize that Botox can prevent those lines and wrinkles.

Why You Should Get Preventative Botox

In Canada, there is not enough cosmetic data to report, but experts claim that U.S. stats reflect Canadian trends. And The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows that Botox use has spiked by 40% over the past five years — and there has been an increase in those aged 19 to 34 getting the cosmetic procedure.

So, why get Botox at a younger age? Does it really work as a preventative measure for aging? Let’s get into it!

What is Preventative Botox

First of all, Botox itself is the name brand for aneuromodulator product made from the toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This essentially means that it acts directly on the muscle to reduce muscle activity. Therefore, patients who already have wrinkles cannot move the muscles that cause those wrinkles to show for a few months until the product wears off.

Preventative Botox is essentially the same thing, except it’s meant for younger patients with no visible signs of lines or wrinkles – it prevents aging lines from setting in on your face. If the line-causing muscles are unable to move as freely as before, wrinkles will not form, and you’ll have fewer as you age. Whereas with regular Botox, patients already have existing lines.

How Preventative Botox Works

If you visit our Botox Cosmetic page, you can learn all about Botox and how it works for those who already have wrinkles set in. For preventive Botox, it’s slightly different as the goal is to prevent wrinkles rather than mask them.

Botox is a purified protein used to relax muscles that cause wrinkles and expression lines. It is administered through a series of tiny injections into specific muscles with a fine needle and works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. Injected muscles can no longer contract, meaning patients with no fine lines will not develop them. Once the Botox wears off after three to four months, we suggest repeated treatments so that lines and wrinkles cannot form.

When You Should Start Considering Preventative Botox

There definitely is such thing as being too young when it comes to Botox. We recommend starting in your early to mid-twenties, but for sure after puberty ends. For women, this age is around 16 to 20 years old, and for men, this is between 16 to 18 years old.

As we mentioned earlier, there has been a trend with preventative Botox between the ages of 19 and 34 – we believe this is the ideal age if patients want to reduce their wrinkles by the time they are 50. But the best time to go is before any lines appear.

Is Preventative Botox Right for You?

If you’re between the golden age we mentioned above, we definitely recommend it for you! However, we suggest you make sure you’re clear about your Botox goal. If it will improve your confidence now and, in the future, then 100%, preventative Botox will be the right choice. Just keep in mind – you will need to continuously receive Botox injections every three to four months to keep wrinkles from forming.

If this is something you can financially and physically keep up with, then we believe you’ll be extremely happy with your results – the way it makes you look and feel will be unmatched! And don’t worry, most patients only feel a little discomfort when receiving the injections, so it’s not a painful procedure.

What to Expect from Your First Treatment

As we mentioned above, Botox is not very painful. We understand that some patients don’t like the idea of needles in their faces, but it’s a lot less painful than people imagine. The product itself has a slight numbing effect that helps patients with any discomfort.

The procedure is very quick – almost surprisingly quick for people. All we need is a few minutes, like five to ten, with 30 minutes max for the very first appointment that includes a consultation.

You will experience a bit of bruising at the injection site, which will disappear within a few days. You may also experience redness and bumps right after the procedure, but all of these can be covered up with makeup. Don’t be nervous – we guarantee you’ll love the results!
