What is Botox and how does it differ from fillers

January 12th, 2021

The appearance of fine lines & wrinkles on the skin is an inevitable part of the aging process for most people. These changes in the skin often make you look older. Fortunately, there are countless treatment options available to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, including Botox and Dermal Fillers. Knowing the difference between Botox and facial fillers and how they work matters significantly when looking for a treatment for wrinkles. While both help reduce wrinkles, they work in two very different ways.

What is Botox and how does it differ from fillers

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox, is a natural, purified protein that is injected into facial muscles to temporarily relax facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It is one of the safest products to treat wrinkles. At Dr. Boulos Medical Spa, we inject Botox to treat forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, neck banding and squaring of the jawline. Results from BOTOX vary from patient to patient but typically last between three and six months.

What are Fillers and how do they work?

As we age, the elastin in the skin lessens, as cells lose their ability to produce more of their youthful component. Dermal Fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a substance that’s found in the body, making it much safer than previous procedures. The treatment of wrinkles with dermal filler will usually involve injecting this naturally occurring product containing Hyaluronic Acid, through a tiny needle. By smoothing wrinkles and adding subtle volume, dermal fillers can make a difference to a person’s appearance, giving them a fresher, younger look.

Choosing the Best Procedure

It’s important to know that Botox and dermal fillers treat slightly different problems and are usually used in different areas of the face. Botox eliminates wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet that developed as the result of aging or prolonged exposure to the sun. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are more advantageous for adding volume to specific features of the face
