What are Spider Veins and Varicose Veins?

Varicose Veins are swollen blood vessels that can be found in the legs and are visible through the skin. These vessels are the result of weakening blood vessel walls, and these vessels often twist and turn causing pain. Varicose veins are commonly found on the leg or pelvic area but can also be found anywhere else on the body.

On the other hand, Spider Veins are smaller veins that also twist and turn, and appear red, purple, or blue. Instead, these veins impact the capillaries and look like a spider web or tree branch. These veins are commonly found on the legs and/or face.

What can cause Spider Veins or Varicose Veins?

There are many causes that can put you at risk for varicose and spider veins. These causes include:

  • Genetics
  • Jobs that require you to stand for long periods of time
  • Obesity
  • Hormones
  • Birth control pills
  • A history of blood clots
  • Trauma/injury to the skin
  • Exposure to UV rays

How to Treat Spider Veins or Varicose Veins?

At Dr. Boulous Medical Spa, we would treat Spider Veins and Varicose Veins with the latest technology from Elos™ and GentleMax Pro systems. The laser technology reduces the visibility of problematic leg and facial veins.

Elos™ Syneron-Candela

Using a beam of high-intensity light, the dermal tissue is penetrated to target and heat unwanted veins. Using bi-polar radio frequency energy, this beam of light helps to reduce the veins visibility while protecting the surrounded skin in a non-invasive manner.

Gentlemax Pro

This laser treatment uses a powerful but gentle light-based energy on the dermis. When targeted towards a problematic vein, the energy from this light causes the blood to coagulate. After multiple sessions, the vein collapses and then disappears.

What to Expect At Your Vein Treatment?

This procedure takes approximately 20 – 45 minutes to complete. We recommend 1 to 4 sessions with 6 – 8 weeks in between. A major perk about both the Elos™ Syneron-Candela and GentleMax Pro is that there is no downtime required and you can immediately go back to your regular activities.
