Everything to Know About the Famous Vampire Facial

Why is it called the Vampire Facial?

The famous Vampire Facial is medically known as the Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection Treatment. This treatment isn’t only used for aesthetic reasons but for medical reasons as well. You’re probably wondering, why is it called the Vampire Facial? We all know that vampires need blood, and so does this treatment! This treatment uses the platelets and plasma from your own blood in order to stimulate the recovery and growth of cells.

What is Plasma? What are Platelets?

Your blood is what helps your body recover and heal. The plasma found in your blood is the liquid composed of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. On the other hand, the platelets in your blood is what allows your body to create clots when you get a cut or injury. Overall, your blood plays a major part in your bodies recovery and ability to heal itself.

What is a Platelet-rich Plasma injection (PRP)?

A health practitioner will take a blood sample from you, place it in a container, and then place it in a centrifuge. A centrifuge is a device that spins the blood sample at high speeds to separate the components of your blood. After spinning the sample, the platelets are extracted from the container, then put in a syringe to be injected in the targeted area.

What can PRP treat?

At Dr. Boulos Medical Spa, we use PRP to treat your face, the back of hands, neck, and your décolleté (low neck, high chest area). Through this treatment, depending on where you inject the PRP, you can see a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin quality, a refreshed look, faded dark circles, reduction of acne scars, increased hair growth, and the breakdown of pigmentation and melasma.

Who has used the PRP treatment?

The PRP treatment is popular among celebrities and regular people. Some celebrities that have used the PRP treatment include: Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant.

What to expect after your PRP treatment?

This treatment takes approximately an hour to perform. It only requires a one-time treatment, but for optimal results we suggest that you book 3 – 4 session spaced within 4 weeks apart. Make sure that you do not wear any skincare products or make up for the first 6 hours after the treatment. Also, you’ll want to avoid physical activity, hot tubs, saunas, or direct sunlight after the first 24 hours of the treatment.
