Don’t Sweat It

January 12th, 2021

Excessive sweating, also known as Hyperhidrosis, is an embarrassing condition that affects many people. Whether it affects the underarms, hands or face, large amounts of sweat can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Thankfully, here at Dr. Boulos Medical Spa, we have an effective treatment for excessive sweating.

Botox is FDA-approved for treating excessive sweating of the underarms, but it can also be used on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.

Don’t Sweat It

How do Botox Injections Work?

Botox injections work by blocking the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands. Typically, your nervous system activates your sweat glands when your body temperature rises. That’s how your body automatically cools itself. When you receive Botox injections directly into the area of your body that commonly sweats, the overactive nerves are basically paralyzed. If your nerves can’t signal your sweat glands, you don’t sweat.

What areas can be treated by Botox?

The underarms, palms, soles, scalp and forehead, may be treated with Botox injections. Dr. Boulos Medical Spa and her entire team have extensive experience using Botox to deliver optimal results with great safety.

What to Expect After Treatment

A treatment of Botox for hyperhidrosis usually takes about one hour. You can go back to your normal activities immediately after receiving the Botox injections. It will take between two and seven days for you to stop sweating in the treated area. It can take two weeks for total dryness.

The effects of Botox injections are temporary, which means you’ll need more injections in the future. For underarm sweating, dryness can last anywhere from six to eight months.

Now you no longer have to struggle with excessive sweating. Botox is a highly effective treatment with no downtime. For patients with hyperhidrosis, it can drastically improve your quality of life. If you want to learn more about this treatment, contact us at Dr. Boulos Medical Spa.
