6 Lip Filler Aftercare Tips

January 13th, 2021

If you recently received a lip filler treatment, then it’s important to know that the little things you do on a daily basis can impact the desired end result. Ensure the best possible outcome by considering these tips!

6 Lip Filler Aftercare Tips

Avoid Alcohol Temporarily

Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours post-treatment. Your lips will already be swollen after the treatment and drinking alcohol will only increase the inflammation and provide you with tremendous discomfort.

Massaging Lips

Depending on the brand of filler, some cosmetic injectors recommend massaging your lips post-treatment, but many don’t. Your lips may be a bit bumpy for approximately a week. Sometimes when you massage the bumps, you risk moving the filler around, ultimately attaining an unsatisfying result. Make sure to consult with your physician about what’s best for you.

Elevate Your Head When Sleeping

On the night you receive your treatment, use an extra pillow to prop your head up while you’re sleeping. This will greatly reduce the swelling – you’ll be thankful you did this the next morning!

Avoid Exercise for 24 Hours

If you had plans to work out, then postpone them. Avoid vigorous exercises and very heated environments including your gym’s sauna room. Exercising immediately after injections can complicate your desired results. Going to the gym will affect your hydration levels because sweating directly after receiving the filler may lead to bacterial problems on the injecting site. Try your best to avoid this!

If You Have a Big Event, Book Your Appointment in Advance

Several people decide that it’s time to plump up their lips, too soon before big or monumental events such as weddings or graduations. If you want your desired result in time for these occasions, make sure you plan for your appointment far in advance in order to heal from any swelling or potential bruising. Give yourself plenty of time – this is important.

Stay Hydrated

Occasionally, results appear almost instantly, but sometimes it can take a little longer. Hydration is the key to achieving the results you want. Staying dehydrated has the potential to detrimentally impact results, so ensure you’re drinking lots of water; dermal fillers rely on drawing water to the treated cells. Achieve the full affect from your treatment with this one simple step!

Maintain the fullness of your lips by getting touch ups every 4-6 months – be sure to contact Dr. Boulos for all your lip-care needs!
